Seton Hill scales the ed-tech integration summit

Colleges have followed Seton Hill's lead in iPad adoption.

Realizing that students today “interact with the world in radically different ways than previous generations,” Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa., was one of the first schools in the country to give its students iPads after Apple introduced its iconic tablet computer last year.

But it was Seton Hill’s vision for transforming education through the use of technology, and its focus on staff development to achieve this goal, that led to its selection as our “eCampus of the Month” for October.

Here, Vice President for Information Technology Phil Komarny describes the university’s ed-tech vision and its keys to success.…Read More

Technology innovations help solve educational challenges

A glimpse into the university's new Mansueto Library.

With a high-speed robotic crane that delivers books in the new library and audio response iPad applications in language classrooms, the University of Chicago exemplifies the successful integration of cutting-edge technology within traditional brick-and-mortar education.

For providing small, intimate class settings that allow the faculty and students to engage on an intellectually challenging level and using technology to complement this style of learning instead of replacing it, we’ve chosen the University of Chicago as our “eCampus of the Month” for September—a designation for colleges and universities that are national leaders in using technology effectively.

Here, Klara Jelinkova, associate vice president and chief information technology officer, describes the keys to the university’s ed-tech success. eCampus of the Month: At LSU, ed tech helps make learning ‘geaux’

LSU recently implemented a system for tracking student progress throughout their college careers.

Louisiana State University (LSU) has improved retention rates with software that warns students who are falling behind in class and encourages those who are excelling. The 28,000-student institution also makes technology—including laptops and digital cameras—available to students who might not otherwise have access to the equipment. But what really distinguishes the school is its commitment to staff IT training and support.

Campus leaders have combined an online knowledge base with face-to-face assistance to help faculty integrate technology into their teaching and research.

For understanding that technology is only as effective as the people who use it, we’ve chosen LSU as our “eCampus of the Month” in June—a designation for colleges and universities that are national leaders in using technology effectively in the classroom, library, dormitory, and beyond.…Read More
