Thompson said social networking sites are often the key in driving an internet-based marketing campaign. He said he refers to Facebook and Twitter as “freemiums,” because a college or university can launch a campaign on those sites without the massive budget usually required to spread a message to students, parents, and alumni.
“It costs nothing, but if you get one student from that, it’s worth it,” Thompson said.
