1. More than half (52 percent) of data analytics programs were created after 2010, and 32 percent focus on business intelligence and business analytics.
2. Most top-ranked national universities offer analytics programs, according to the report. In fact, all but seven of the top 150-ranked national universities by U.S. News in 2016 offer formal data analytics programs. Of those seven universities, only one is ranked in the top 75.
3. Though the largest number of data analytics programs are offered as majors instead of minors or certificate programs, instructors said data analytics certificate programs experienced the most growth over the past several years.
4. The University of Washington-Seattle leads the pack with 46 data analytics programs. George Mason University is next with 31, followed by Carnegie Mellon University with 25.
5. There is a gap in data analytics education in community colleges and two-year institutions
“The number one barrier to more schools, particularly 2-year institutions, offering analytics programs is qualified teachers,” said Justin Rowland, business analytics instructor at Wake Technical Community College, in the report.
