Instructors at 325 Community and Technical Colleges to Receive Access to Peer-to-Peer Online Professional Development
Boston, MA, October 21, 2014 — To ensure the availability of accessible and affordable professional development for community and technical college instructors in the United States and Canada, Cengage Learning, a global education company, and NISOD, a membership organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges, have partnered to provide professional development content to instructors at NISOD member colleges. Cengage Learning’s peer-to-peer faculty development group, TeamUP, worked closely with NISOD to create a web portal featuring discounted, self-paced faculty development modules, a library of recorded TeamUP conferences and an array of virtual workshops for instructors at NISOD’s 325 member colleges.
“In today’s educational landscape, access to professional development remains immensely important,” said Sandi Kirshner, chief marketing officer, Cengage Learning. “That is why, together with NISOD, we are partnering with instructors seeking to transform community and technical colleges. We provide educators with development resources, information on current trends and best practices, support in implementation of technology and expertise in designing engaging curriculum to inspire students.”
Cengage Learning’s TeamUP faculty development group is comprised of professional educators who have built their careers teaching at the college-level, and continue to do so today. They are dedicated to helping foster student success and increase engagement through faculty development and consulting on topics including active learning strategies, student success, retention and assessment. NISOD will provide this portal to its members at a discounted rate to ensure that all members have access to meaningful continuing education opportunities.
“Faculty members committed to excellence in teaching are equally committed to their own professional development,” said Edward Leach, executive director, NISOD. “Collaborating with Cengage Learning is a great way for NISOD to provide faculty at our member colleges with access to resources that will help them excel at their profession.”
