Although talks about scaling back federal control over education have been ongoing for years, few in the academic world expected it to actually come to fruition. Yet, here we are. In the wake of mass firings at the U.S. Department of Education, the Trump administration is preparing to issue an executive order aimed at systematically dismantling the Department altogether, setting the stage to either redistribute its duties or eliminate them entirely.
