A community college is partnering with local industry and government to launch a project intended to have wide-reaching benefits for its economy, citizens, and communities as it helps them push through COVID-19 hardships.
Greenfield Community College (GCC) is located in Franklin County in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed.
GCC is known for the caring and supportive attitude of its faculty and staff, academic excellence, and for the broad support it enjoys from the surrounding community. Recently GCC—in partnership with LaunchSpace Inc. (LSI) and the Franklin County Community Development Corporation (FCCDC)—was awarded $175,000 from the Massachusetts Office of Business Development to launch its Greater Franklin County Rural Innovation Accelerator. The Greater Franklin County Rural Innovation Accelerator project will serve as a catalyst for the creation of a high-impact, systemic approach to improving the economic well-being of individuals and communities throughout Franklin County.
The grant is part of Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration’s 37 Regional Pilot Project grants. This program was established to support pandemic recovery programs and solutions based on the specific economic needs of individual regions of the state and was designed to fund projects that uniquely address local concerns.
