In a speech that chiefly focused on expansions of initiatives announced last year, State University of New York Chancellor Nancy Zimpher outlined a massive push to expand the university system’s online learning program, the Times Union reports.
In the annual State of the University address, Zimpher formally announced the launch of Open SUNY, an expansion of online learning across the SUNY system that kicked off on Tuesday with eight new online degree programs at six campuses and plans to add more programs in September. The university system already offers about12,000 courses and 150 degree programs online.
Zimpher said she hopes to boost online enrollment by 100,000 over the next three years.
“We call this our digital DNA,” she said. “It is all about strong student supports, the best in academic programming, campus and system-level infrastructure, and, perhaps most important, a vibrant network of expert and committed faculty.”
