Connecticut: House approves bill to simplify financial aid

Parents of children heading to state colleges and universities in 2015 would find it easier to navigate the complicated seas of financial aid under legislation approved unanimously Thursday in the state House of Representatives, the Connecticut Post reports. The 141-0 vote sends the bill to the Senate. If approved there, and signed into law by the governor, the legislation would require public and private institutions of higher education to provide the same financial aid forms to all admitted students. The law would not take effect until July 1, 2014, so next spring’s crop of college applicants would not benefit from the new forms. The new documents would be similar to those the federal government requires colleges and universities to provide to veterans.
