In the lead-up to this week’s Iowa Caucus, University of Iowa journalism professor Stephen Bloom penned a folksy piece for The Atlantic and shared his observations of the great Hawkeye State, says the Washington Post. One of those observations: Most rural Iowans are “the elderly waiting to die, those too timid (or lacking in education) to peer around the bend for better opportunities, an assortment of waste-toids and meth addicts with pale skin and rotted teeth, or those who quixotically believe, like Little Orphan Annie, that ‘The sun’ll come out tomorrow.’” Many Iowans were, simply put, totally appalled.
