A third of UK tech leaders encouraged by role models and mentors to join industry


Talent Works survey of tech leaders shows gap between education guidance and a career in industry In advance of World Youth Skills Day, leaders advise students to focus on software development and AI

Manchester, UK, Boston, US; 15th July 2021: A survey of 400 tech leaders in the UK and US by Talent Works has revealed that role models or mentors (31%) were their biggest inspiration early in their careers.

Asked who influenced them most, the university/education system came second (29%), followed by parents (21%). However, when it comes to encouraging young people to undertake STEM subjects, 51% of UK tech leaders believe the guidance should be the responsibility of schools.
