Internet Access for Students in Need

Spectrum Enterprise and NETC Partner to Provide Broadband Internet Access to Students

Northeastern Technical College (NETC) and Spectrum Enterprise have partnered to provide Spectrum broadband services to NETC students who live at currently serviceable addresses in a Spectrum market. Spectrum Enterprise worked with NETC to design a customized program to meet the college’s expanding distance learning needs.

“This is tremendous news and the sort of collaboration that we must foster during these challenging times,” said Gov. Henry McMaster. “This innovative problem-solving will undoubtedly help Northeastern Technical College’s students, but should also serve as an example to all South Carolinians that when we come together with a common goal, we will persevere.”

Spectrum Internet delivers the speed and reliability that enables students to embrace technology to continue their education online.

“When the COVID-19 situation prompted NETC to transition to a distance learning model, Spectrum Enterprise delivered a remote connection solution to ensure that NETC students could continue to learn and meet their course requirements,” said Bill Archer, EVP and President, Spectrum Enterprise. “We are committed to providing connectivity solutions to educational institutions, like NETC, so that students, educators and staff have reliable, high-speed Internet access that they need for remote learning programs and collaborations amongst remote educators.”

NETC summer session began on May 13 and is offered in a virtual college modality. There is no cost for students to use this service. Students receive free Internet access to complete coursework and participate in a virtual college concept offered by NETC.

Funding for the project is provided in part by a grant awarded to NETC, donations through NETC Foundation, and other sources. For more information, current students are encouraged to check out the NETC resource page at www.netc.edu.

“This partnership fully supports the mission of NETC and provides further accessibility for the success of our students,” said NETC President Dr. Kyle Wagner. “Our students and their academic success during this time have been a key objective of our staff and administration.”

The community can help expand Internet access and assist more students in receiving this and similar services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, by making a tax-deductible donation to the NETC Foundation.
