Here are five awesome educational films and TV programs to watch and share on Netflix
With Netflix streaming, there are thousands of films and television shows to choose from and watch instantly. And a surprisingly large portion of these films are educational in nature.
There are television specials, feature-length documentary films, and recorded lectures about topics ranging from science to American history, from music history to digital citizenship.
Here are just five Netflix resources we found to be both entertaining and informative.
1. NOVA
Netflix currently has more than three decades-worth of the PBS documentary series available for streaming. From exploring the inner workings of animal minds to dramatically presenting the miracle of life, there are more than 100 episodes to choose from.

2. National Geographic: Amazing Planet
Over three episodes, this documentary series demonstrates “how Earth took shape through the actions of lava, magma and time, then observes its oceans and other natural powers.”
3. The Great Courses: The Inexplicable Universe
Before taking us on a journey through the Cosmos, everybody’s favorite astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson, taught a handful of video courses for the company Great Courses. In this course, Tyson “explores the most tantalizing, mind bending questions at the forefront of scientific inquiry using visually stunning 3D virtual environments.”

4. Ken Burns documentaries
Several of the iconic filmmaker’s influential historical documentaries are streaming on Netflix, covering topics that include the Dust Bowl, World War II, prohibition, baseball, jazz, the National Park Service, and–of course–the Civil War.
