Ellucian helps three New Jersey institutions land $32.9 million in technology grants

FAIRFAX, Va. — September 27, 2013 —Three New Jersey institutions of higher education got a significant boost for their technology initiatives thanks to multi-million dollar state grants secured with the help of Ellucian.

Ocean County College, Burlington County College, and Brookdale Community College were awarded 100 percent of their respective grant requests from the New Jersey Higher Education Capital Facilities Programs, for a collective total of $32,884,453.

“Our students will directly benefit from better and more advanced technology as they compete in today’s workforce and transfer to four-year institutions,” said David C. Hespe, president of Burlington County College, which was awarded almost $4.6 million through three state grant programs.

The Ellucian team works with colleges and universities to identify grant opportunities that align with their strategic initiatives, then help prepare applications that showcase the institutions’ unique strengths and capabilities. To date, Ellucian has helped institutions secure more than $80 million in grant funding.

“We’re thrilled that these institutions will have the funding to pursue their technology initiatives and that Ellucian was able to help,” said Mike Wallesen, senior vice president and chief services officer of Ellucian. “We know how tight funding is across higher education, but we also know that significant grant opportunities are available—and often untapped. We make it our mission to help institutions find and secure those opportunities.”

Indeed, the New Jersey institutions credited their grant successes in part to the strong partnership between Ellucian and their respective staffs.

“Ellucian was instrumental in securing the funding,” said Patty Kahn, executive director of information technology services at Brookdale Community College, which was awarded $15.8 million by the state. “Ellucian leveraged our three-year network infrastructure plan, which they developed, and also added unified communications to align with the institution’s goals and priorities for curriculum delivery.”

Ocean County College also credited Ellucian for helping to secure more than $12.5 million to fund capital construction projects and instructional technology.

“We are very proud to have been awarded funding through this competitive process and worked closely with Ellucian to produce comprehensive applications in a very short time frame,” said Sara Winchester, executive vice president of finance & administration. “Ellucian’s knowledge of current instructional technology and the needs of today’s students and faculty helped us design upgrades that will allow OCC to establish a campus-wide technology standard that will be state of the art.”
