Duke University professors are thinking carefully about how their institution should step in the water of online courses, and calling for the university to tread carefully, the Triangle Business Journal reports. That includes offering credit for various online courses through a consortium where Duke students could earn credit for courses taken online at other universities, like Notre Dame, Emory or Northwestern, to name a few. That consortium is not a MOOC, which stands for massive open online course and is a free lecture format open to anyone with internet access and does not offer credit. Various professors at Triangle universities have taught these types of courses and some have blogged about how much they liked it. … Some professors don’t like the idea, and especially that they were brought to the table late in the game, according to some.
