Barracuda Networks Launches Integrated Data Protection and Backup for Virtual and Physical Environments

New Barracuda Backup Service Introduces VMware Support

Campbell, Calif., April 18, 2011 – Barracuda Networks Inc., a leading provider of content security, data protection and application delivery solutions, today announced the new Barracuda Backup Service with VMware host support, allowing customers to quickly and efficiently back up and restore guest virtual machines. The new service also provides deduplicated images of virtual servers that can be transferred offsite for comprehensive disaster recovery protection. This new functionality is available free of charge for existing Barracuda Backup Service customers with an active Energize Updates subscription.

“As of mid-2011, VMware reportedly has some 75 percent of the virtualization market, which is rapidly growing across all verticals as customers look to lower costs and simplify server deployment,” said Guy Suter, general manager of the Barracuda Backup Service. “We believe that customers are supported best with a product that can protect both physical and virtual environments, simply, without patching solutions together. The Barracuda Backup Service does just that.”

The new Barracuda Backup Service offers physical and virtual backups within a single, integrated offsite replication solution with no complex per server or per application fees. With VMware host support, Barracuda Backup Service customers have a quicker, more efficient way to recover their virtual servers, including comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity functionality regardless of whether they replicate their data to the cloud or to another Barracuda Backup Server.

“With our entire network virtualized, it is critical to address our virtual environment,” said Otis Curry, Computer Technology Corporation. “Barracuda Backup Service allows us to do this with a single integrated solution, which is great for maximizing our resources and making sure our data is safe.”

Barracuda Networks now supports VMware product versions: VMware ESX 4.0.x and 4.1.x, VMware ESXi 4.0.x, and 4.1.x, VMware ESXi 5.0.x, and VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x, 4.1.x, and 5.0.x.
