AUSTIN, TX — August 2, 2022 – Community college students often must balance various responsibilities. In addition to daily course work, students may have commitments like a job, taking care of family members, or volunteering. Financial barriers can add yet another obstacle, making academic success a challenge for some students.
Watermark Scholars is an annual program that provides financial opportunities to higher education students, helping them leap over existing barriers and realize their dreams.
“Higher education continues to be a pivotal way to achieve future success, yet it still remains financially inaccessible for many,” Alex Leader, Chief Impact Officer at Watermark, said. “This scholarship is meant to accelerate two community college students on their academic journey, and we are thrilled to support them along the way.”
“Students have dreams of taking charge of their future and achieving their career goals,” said Erin Shy, CEO at Watermark. “They want to be exploring and discovering, not sidelined due to barriers. This scholarship supports these students’ aspirations.”
Who is Eligible?
The Program is open to:
- U.S. citizens and legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia.
- Individuals at least eighteen (18) years of age or older, and
- Students enrolled at a community college within the U.S., including the District of Columbia, for the 2022-2023 academic year.
How to Apply
Entrants may apply by submitting no more than one video on the following topic: “What challenges have you overcome to be a successful student, and what are you inspired to do after graduation?” Videos can be up to but should not exceed two (2) minutes. Watermark will accept submissions via the entry form placed on https://www.watermarkinsights.com/watermark-scholars/ during the submission period. Using any automated system to submit entries is prohibited and will result in disqualification.
The number of total entries is limited to 1,000. Watermark employees representing the competition sponsor will judge the first 1,000 entries; they will evaluate each for content, communication skills, and vision.
Last year’s Watermark Scholars competition focused on college women in STEM programs. The winners were Elayne Blancas, a senior in computer engineering at New York University, and Elizabeth Landers, a fourth-year doctoral student in Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University.
