Community institutions have always placed themselves on the front lines in the messy struggle of helping students prepare for the world of work. That goal is becoming a bigger challenge as the nature of work changes so dramatically. While plenty of community colleges are poised to help prepare students to join this “digital workforce,” others will require investment to bring curriculum and technology up-to-date and encourage faculty to innovate their instructional practices. Campus Technology set out to understand where two-year colleges and vocational programs are positioned in their adoption of these new forms of technology. This article explores the highlights of that survey and offers guidance to two-year colleges for empowering students to learn by doing.
