PITTSBURGH, PA, October 15, 2009 – Carnegie Learning, Inc. announced today that the State Board of Education in North Carolina is recommending the company’s complete suite of middle school and high school mathematics textbooks and Cognitive Tutor® Software to schools across the state. The State Board of Education completed an extensive review of Carnegie Learning® Bridge to Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II programs, and recommended the materials for use as core curricula for 8th grade Math, Introductory Mathematics, Algebra I, Algebra II, & Geometry in North Carolina.

The statewide selection of textbooks/instructional materials is administered by the North Carolina Textbook Commission which appoints Regional Textbook Advisory Committees to review and evaluate materials submitted by publishers. In the 2009 adoption process this fall, the Textbook Commission approved only instructional materials that met the new North Carolina Essential Standards approved in September.

“The Carnegie Learning® Textbook is a very good resource that makes math concepts relevant to the students so that they see things in a real world perspective and work together to figure things out,” said Tim Powell, a math teacher in Greene County Schools, North Carolina, where the district began using Carnegie Learning® Math Programs in August. “The most important thing I see, is that students who have not had success in math before are becoming successful and having fun in my classroom.”
