In a deal with huge implications for the publishing world, Amazon has grabbed the exclusive eBook rights to sell "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and "Principle-Centered Leadership," by Stephen Covey, Business Insider reports. The deal freezes out Barnes & Noble from getting the popular titles on the Nook, its eBook reader and a rival to Amazon’s Kindle. It also takes away control from Covey’s traditional publisher, Simon & Schuster. Covey’s incentive for the deal? He’ll receive more than half of the net proceeds from eBook sales, according to the New York Times. A typical cut is just a quarter of the proceeds. If Amazon can offer up attractive rates like this to more authors, it can secure more exclusive books, gaining leverage over publishers and eBook rivals–although whether this is good for eBook readers remains to be seen…
