Gwynedd Mercy University’s School of Education to Expand Its Use of Teachscape

With the addition of the soon-to-launch doctoral program, Teachscape will be used throughout university’s clinical teacher preparation program

SAN FRANCISCO, May 13, 2014 – Gwynedd Mercy University in Gwynedd, PA is expanding its use of Teachscape this fall as it launches the Accelerated Executive Doctorate in Educational Leadership program. With this new academic offering, Teachscape’s professional learning tools will be used by undergraduate, graduate, master, and doctoral faculty and students as an integral part of the university’s clinical teacher preparation program.

“Our overarching goal is to ensure that all of our students are fully prepared to be effective, highly qualified teachers,” said Dr. Sandra D. Mangano, dean of the School of Education at Gwynedd Mercy University. “Teachscape helps us build and improve students’ knowledge, leadership skills, and teaching effectiveness so they can excel in the field. It is already foundational to our ongoing teaching and learning processes, and will now be a valuable resource in our doctoral program as students continue their educational careers.”

Faculty and students in the School of Education use the Teachscape Reflect Observation and Evaluation Management System to engage in self-reflection and one-on-one or group evaluations based on actual video of students’ instructional practices in the field. They also use the Teachscape Learn Professional Learning System to improve students’ professional learning and effectiveness using the system’s research-based PreK–12 course library, online learning communities, video upload and sharing tools, and personalized learning plans.

Gwynedd Mercy University is among a growing cohort of well-respected higher education institutions, including Gardner-Webb University, Princeton University, Rutgers University, Texas State University, and Texas Tech University, who are selecting Teachscape for their teacher education clinical preparation programs. “Educator preparation programs across the country are increasingly turning to Teachscape to help them prepare their students for success when they enter the field,” said Jane-Manning Hyatt, vice president of university partnerships at Teachscape. “Teachscape provides educator preparation programs with the valuable resources needed to improve student and faculty performance, as well as collect the data needed to support their accreditation goals.”
