FundingFactory Announces Launch of COLLECTED

ERIE, Pa. (Aug. 15, 2013)—After continued success working with K-12 and higher education participants, FundingFactory, the nation’s largest fundraising by recycling program for schools and nonprofits, announces the launch of COLLECTED, the free electronic waste (e-waste) recycling program for college campuses. COLLECTED enables higher education institutions to exchange e-waste for cash or rewards, while preventing millions of pounds of harmful waste from reaching landfills.

COLLECTED pays higher education institutions for collecting used inkjet and toner printer cartridges, cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras and laptops. Through online accounts at FundingFactory.com, participants can track their reuse and recycle rates, raw materials breakdown, carbon emission offsets, as well as shipments and earnings.

“As sustainability becomes a primary focus for colleges and universities, disposing of electronic waste in a safe and efficient manner is of upmost importance to eco-minded student bodies around the country,” said COLLECTED Channel Development Manager Conor MacDowell. “COLLECTED offers a 100 percent free recycling solution for electronic waste, while also providing promotional materials to support each school’s collection program and ensure minimal divergence of recyclable material.”

As an active COLLECTED recycler, Drexel University kicked-off its participation with a campus-wide “Clean Up, Green Up: Move-Out Day 2013” e-waste recycling campaign. Kyle Kephart, director of quality services and chair of the sustainability council at Drexel University, helped organize the campaign to raise awareness for e-waste recycling on campus.

“The containers provided by COLLECTED make it easy and convenient for members of the Drexel community to recycle e-waste and unwanted gadgets that can’t go into regular recycling bins,” said Kephart. “As an added bonus, we used the funds raised through Clean Up, Green Up to invest in other Drexel green initiatives.”

Colleges and universities interested in joining COLLECTED can contact Conor MacDowell directly at cmacdowell@fundingfactory.com or call 814-464-1836.
