And as EdTech Magazine reports, two big-time players in the learning management system (LMS) industry recently announced  moves to the cloud with their products: Instructure is powering a new platform, Canvas Commons, with its cloud-based Canvas LMS; and a cloud-based version of Blackboard’s flagship LMS, Blackboard Learn, will soon offer a Software-as-a-Service model. Both of these technologies could soon affect online learning in a big way.

So as we enter a new year, can we expect to see the same kind of massive transformations in online learning? If so, what are some of the trends, technologies, and pedagogical innovations with the greatest potential to enhance this method of teaching and learning?
