The University of Oklahoma Launches Executive MBA in Energy Program

Norman, OK – January 23, 2014 – The OU Price College of Business began offering an Executive MBA in Energy (EMBA) in January 2014. Created by the Energy Institute within the college, the program allows students to learn primarily online with three weeklong in-person residencies, the first of which participants just completed in Norman.

“After nearly three years in development, it was rewarding to meet the students who selected our EMBA in Energy program as the next step in their career advancement,” said Dipankar Ghosh, executive director of the Energy Institute and the David C. Steed Chair in Accounting. “I’ve enjoyed the feedback so far from the senior industry executives teaching the classes during the residency – they were impressed by the quality of the students enrolled in our first group and their leadership experience and future potential.”

Class One has 18 students who bring an average of 12 years in the energy business and more than 15 years of overall work experience. The students span companies of all sizes and represent key functional areas across the enterprise of the energy organization, including engineering, geophysics, land management, water management, IT and other business functions.

Students say they chose the program because of its energy focus, OU’s reputation in the energy industry and its online delivery format. Students also said they want to expand their network among experienced energy professionals who are likely to be industry leaders of tomorrow.

“OU has more than a century of tradition in energy education,” said Daniel Pullin, Price’s interim dean. “With this program, Price College is confirming our leadership position in providing distinctive business education to the energy community.”

Class One will take online courses until its next residency week in July, which will be hosted at BP’s training center in London. Class Two for the Executive MBA in Energy will launch in August 2014, followed by Class Three in January 2015.
