Pennsylvania Department of Education Extends Funding for Statewide Electronic Student Record and Transcript Initiative

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.— (August 6, 2013)—Parchment, the leader in eTranscript exchange with more than 7,700 member institutions, today announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has extended grants to enable K-20 students to use eTranscripts or Student Records Exchange (SREX). This extension of funding for Pennsylvania eSTARS (Student Transcripts and Record System) participants will give secondary and postsecondary schools additional time and opportunity to implement Parchment’s eTranscript sending and receiving services.

PDE and Parchment launched PA eSTARS in September 2012, and the program has been met with enthusiastic response: nearly 80% of all high schools are participating via the Parchment platform, covering approximately 80% of all high school students in the state. Postsecondary schools have embraced eSTARS as well, with 12 of 14 state community colleges and 8 of 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) schools participating, including Penn State University, the University of Pittsburgh, Lehigh University, Cabrini College, and Lincoln University.

With Parchment, educators can streamline transcript and student records processing and delivery to provide greater convenience for students. At the same time, significantly reduced costs and operational efficiencies allow staff to devote more time to higher level activities and improved student services.

“As students apply to 2-year and 4-year schools there’s a tremendous amount on the line, and we can’t afford to not work effectively and efficiently in getting applications processed,” said Todd Price, Principal, Montour High School. “Our parents have appreciated the electronic process as well, knowing that beyond a shadow of a doubt, their child’s records are ending up where they are supposed to be, in a very timely fashion, with the push of a button.”

“PDE is among the leaders nationally who are driving statewide adoption of eTranscripts. Pennsylvania administrators recognize the impact that electronic education credentials can have on achieving attainment goals,” said Parchment CEO Matthew Pittinsky. “PA eSTARS makes the college application process easier and encourages more students to pursue a postsecondary education.”
