Helix Education Leads Competency-Based Education Session at PAPSA Conference

Company Publishes New Article on Key Questions to Ask When Preparing for CBE

Salt Lake City, UT – July 22, 2014 – Helix Education, a world class provider of student life cycle technologies and services, has been selected to present at the upcoming Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators (PAPSA) Annual Conference. The Helix Education team will lead a how-to discussion focused on the transition to competency-based education (CBE), exploring learning models, integration strategies, instructional design, course creation, and student support.

“More and more schools are starting to think about and implement CBE, and these thought leaders will be the first to tell you that it takes careful planning,” said Steve Pappageorge, Chief Product Officer and SVP at Helix Education. “CBE doesn’t necessarily have to be an all or nothing approach – there are opportunities for schools to ease in and test the waters. We are excited to meet with PAPSA attendees and spark a dialog that gets them thinking about the different CBE models and important considerations that will ease the transition process.”

PAPSA is featuring “Five Things You Should Know About Competency-Based Education” on Thursday, July 24th at 9:15a.m. and at 1:45 p.m. It will be lead by Helix Education’s Tom Caswell, who has developed over 120 courses and shared competency-based models with numerous community colleges, and Kari Kovar, who has worked with institutions to solidify online learning, retention and engagement strategies.

Several members of Helix Education’s team have extensive experience in early CBE implementations, giving them unique insight into what works and where challenges can occur. The company recently published an article that explores key questions schools should be asking before they get started with CBE, covering everything from models and academic strategies, to policies and regulations. “How Ready are you for Competency-Based Education?” is available on the company’s website.
