BRETFORD INTRODUCES NEW POLYURETHANE EDGES FOR TABLES USED IN EDUCATION, CASUAL AND BUSINESS SETTINGS

New Edges Offer Durability, Resistance to Stains and Liquids and a Sophisticated Look; Available Now With Many EXPLORE™ Tables and Other Bretford Products

CHICAGO — May 13, 2013 — Bretford Manufacturing, Inc.®, a United States manufacturer of technology-enabled furniture for agile learning and business environments, has introduced two new polyurethane edges as standard options with its EXPLORE™ line of tables for education, casual and business settings. The new reverse knife and quarter rounded polyurethane edges, which are soft yet durable, resistant to stains and liquids, and offer a refined appearance, are currently available with many EXPLORE tables as well as select carts and desks from Bretford.

“Table edges take quite a beating between bumps, spills and continual use, which can ultimately reduce the life and the look of the table,” explained Robert Hoyler, product manager for Bretford Manufacturing, Inc. “The new Bretford polyurethane edges provide extra cushioning, and are perfect for tables that are being used in high traffic locations, especially where they are frequently moved around. The new edges provide resistance to liquids, stains and scratches so they’re great for tables in cafés, lounges and other spaces for social gathering. Additionally, they offer a rich and refined appearance, fitting for tables found in corporate training rooms and other places where a more sophisticated, high-end work surface is desired.”

The Bretford polyurethane edges are molded, which allows them to be formed into unique shapes. Available in reverse knife (Edge 18) and quarter round (Edge 19) styles, these edges are shaped on the user side and are flat on the remaining sides and back to allow them to fit closely together for a clean connection with other tables.

Made using a high pressure laminate and heavy duty MDF substrate, the polyurethane edges provide a soft design that acts as a bumper to protect walls and doorways while keeping chairs or other objects from damage. Because these edges are molded directly to the table and bond to the substrate for a complete seal around the perimeter, they are nearly impossible to separate from the work surface. This process also makes them highly resistant to staining and liquid absorption while, at the same time, giving them a rich feel and appearance.

Unlike a PVC edge, which is constructed with chlorine and lead and requires significant energy to produce, polyurethane edges are safe for the environment. They generate very low levels of pollution in manufacturing, require less energy to manufacture, remain inert in landfill conditions and do not leach toxic materials into the surrounding environment.

The new polyurethane edges are available as a standard option on many of the tables in the EXPLORE line. EXPLORE tables are designed to enable today’s technology and support the modern learning environment. Products in this category include the EXPLORE brand of T-leg Computer Tables, Pedestal Base Café Tables, Flip and Nest Collaborative Tables, 4-leg Collaborative Laptop Tables and T-leg Collaborative Laptop Tables.
