Unicon Announces New Services and Support for the Student Success Plan

Denver, CO – November 6, 2012— Unicon, Inc., a leading IT consulting services provider specializing in open source for the education market, today announced from the EDUCAUSE conference its new services and support for the Student Success Plan (SSP), a Jasig project. The open source SSP case management software supports a holistic coaching and counseling model which expedites proactive interventions for students in need. The SSP open source software allows institutions to modify the software to fit their individual requirements. Open source allows institutions’ control, while maintaining cost, and gives them a community of support. SSP helps students remove academic and personal obstacles, positively impacting student success. SSP is designed to improve retention, academic performance, persistence, graduation rates, and time to degree. Unicon will be showcasing SSP at the EDUCAUSE conference in booth #1124, November 7 – 8, Denver, CO.

“The Student Success Plan (SSP) is now open source software, supported by the Jasig community and vendors including Unicon,” said Russ Little, Project Director, SSP. “This support will not only help the continued success of SSP but will ensure its users reliable solutions and assistance in increasing student success.”

Students, faculty, staff, coaches, advisors, and counselors stay in communication to provide the best possible outcome in student achievement. The software provides case management tools to assist: Student Intake, development of Action Plans, Journals, Case History, Early Alerts, and Comprehensive Referral Guides. SSP is a multi-tiered system, with strong security controls to allow many different institutional roles to work with the student, while maintaining student privacy.

Through counseling, web-based support systems, and proactive intervention techniques, students are identified, supported, and monitored. SSP can be used with any targeted population of students, such as at-risk students or athletes.

“We are happy to welcome SSP to the Jasig community,” said Patty Gertz, Executive Director of Jasig. “Partnering with vendors such as Unicon gives our community added support and encourages the ongoing development and longevity of SSP.”

Unicon services for SSP include processes discovery, deployment (installation, technical configuration, and branding), integration (SIS, LMS, other), custom development, training, support, and hosting. Unicon now supports SSP with its innovative Cooperative Support Program, which provides member organizations with a predictable cost support solution for their open source applications including SSP, CAS, Grouper, Sakai, Shibboleth, uMobile, and uPortal. The program guarantees a dedicated team of expert development and technical support specialists for direct technical support and assistance. Development work and fixes performed by the Cooperative Support program for individual organizations are contributed back and shared with the SSP community.
