Service to focus on higher-ed business models

Association of Governing Boards launches AGB Institutional Strategies Consulting

HED-businessThe Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) has launched AGB Institutional Strategies, a new consulting service that focuses on the operational and financial challenges of colleges and universities.

“Eighty percent of our member presidents, when asked, indicated that colleges and universities need assistance in addressing their business model,” said Richard Legon, President of AGB. “AGB Institutional Strategies was created to help our members with both cost and revenue challenges and to be a resource regarding new business models.”

AGB Institutional Strategies uses a distinctive methodology that includes three services: Discovery, Innovation, and Implementation. The services comprise external evaluation and diagnostics assessments, as well as innovative strategies to address revenue and cost alignment. As part of its process, AGB Institutional Strategies provides its members with an understanding of the macro trends shaping higher education and works to align those trends with new business models. The staff has extensive functional experience in diagnosing institutional problems, inventing workable solutions, and guiding implementation at all levels of the organization.

Richard Beyer will serve as Founding Managing Principal of AGB Institutional Strategies. Rick has over 20 years of experience in industry leadership and higher education governance. He is the former President of Wheeling Jesuit University and a former AGB board member.

“Changing consumer habits, new delivery models, and affordability are just a few of the macro trends that are shaping the future of higher education,” Beyer said. “Institutions today must better align their mission with the changing trends in higher education, and AGB is uniquely positioned to help its members as they work on advancing their future.” Beyer continued, “The business of higher education is our only business. This new AGB service will allow institutions to address critical and strategic issues related to their future.”

“AGB is the leader in higher education board governance and our expanded service on new business model initiatives is a natural extension for us as we continue to be a trusted resource for our members,” said Nelson Carbonell, AGB board member and Chairman of the board at George Washington University. “Today board members and senior administrators are faced with extraordinary challenges as they navigate their future through a period of uncertainty, and AGB Institutional Strategies will be a valuable resource for our members.”
