FORMER CEO OF CREATIVE COMMONS, CATHERINE CASSERLY,

Mountain View, Calif. – December 2, 2014 — – EdCast, a Stanford StartX company that creates Knowledge Cloud platforms for institutions, educators, enterprises and governments worldwide to collaborate with each other, today announced that Catherine Casserly, former CEO of Creative Commons, has joined the Company as Vice President of Learning Networks.

“Cathy’s experience developing new pathways for learning is a valuable addition to the Company’s management team,” said EdCast founder and CEO Karl Mehta. “She has great leadership, business, and industry expertise that will help our customers and partner organizations leverage new and effective learning resources that will improve the educational experience and learning outcomes.”

Casserly is a Fellow with the Aspen Institute and a member of the Technical Working Group developing the 2015 National Education Technology Plan. She was formerly the CEO of Creative Commons, a global non-profit that empowers people and institutions to share their creative, scholarly, and other knowledge assets. Prior, as Vice President at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, she launched their Networked Improvement Community work with community colleges. As a program officer of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Casserly developed and managed the investment portfolio that launched the field of Open Educational Resources.

Early in her career Casserly taught mathematics in Kingston, Jamaica. She earned her Ph.D. in the Economics of Education from Stanford University and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Boston College. She holds an honorary doctorate from the Open University, UK and is a founding board member of both the Digital Public Library of America and Peer-2-Peer University.
