Community college boosts BYOD security

North Hennepin Community College partners with Good Technology for secure mobile BYOD solution.

BYOD-mobileIn an effort to improve its BYOD security, North Hennepin Community College is using Good Technology’s Good Enterprise Suite for its BYOD solution, enabling secure access to work emails, student assignments, strategic plans, and more.

North Hennepin Community College, part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, is one of the largest community colleges in the state with over 10,000 students and 500 employees. Faculty and administrators have demonstrated a desire to grade assignments and review documents from their personal devices, and the college’s IT department needed a BYOD solution that protects student information and intellectual property, while separating work and personal data.

“With so much back and forth between classrooms and meetings, higher education employees need the ability to work from their personal devices,” said Kristine Boike, Dean of Academic and Technology Services, North Hennepin Community College. “In addition to providing top security and usability, our faculty is saving hours each week through Good’s efficient workflows.”

Good Enterprise Suite is a comprehensive enterprise mobility management (EMM) and BYOD solution offering complete mobile device management combined with day one business productivity. The suite includes advanced mobile device management (MDM); mobile application management (MAM); and Good for Enterprise, a fast business-first productivity app that provides a user interface with business-optimized features including calendar reply and forwarding, availability information, one-tap conference dialing, and secure browser integration. Good for Enterprise’s cross-platform mobile collaboration solution for iOS and Android has earned the Common Criteria EAL4+ certification.

“As universities and learning institutions continue to transform education, mobility plays a key role in availability and having secure access to sensitive information from anywhere at any  time,” said Christy Wyatt, chairman and CEO at Good Technology. “North Hennepin Community College is setting a great example for how secure mobility solutions can make educators more efficient outside of the classroom.”

Following the success of Good for Enterprise for North Hennepin’s employees, the school is considering expanding its deployment to students. Students who don’t own a laptop or tablet might be able to borrow an iPad for free or a nominal fee. Furthermore, Good Enterprise Suite makes it easy for IT teams to remotely wipe sensitive data from a device if it is lost or stolen, or prepare the device for the next student to use.
