Although enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are incredibly necessary and powerful campus tools, there are some things they simply aren’t designed to do well.
Because an ERP is a broad system designed to handle many more functions than just overseeing employees, it typically lacks the specificity to apply very granular policies with regard to workforce management and other human capital management (HCM) functionalities, for example.
As a result, campus employees often waste valuable time either fixing errors or performing functions manually—or else institutions spend a lot of time and money developing workaround solutions. These inconveniences could be avoided if universities invested in an HCM system designed specifically to handle complex workforce scenarios like those often found in higher education.
