OAK BROOK, Ill., April 10, 2012 – Innovation in the classroom is essential for student success and Follett Higher Education Group’s CafeScribe® is recognizing faculty who go above and beyond to inspire their students and fellow faculty. For the second year, CafeScribe is proud to sponsor the award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology at the 23rd annual International Conference on College Teaching and Learning. Awards will be presented at a luncheon on Wednesday, April 11, at Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

“Follett is always looking for new ways to provide students with innovative learning solutions that make an impact on education,” said Gary Shapiro, Follett’s Senior Vice President of Intellectual Property. “We applaud faculty who make a difference in students’ education by implementing fresh and creative teaching methods to keep students engaged and learning.”

Eleven faculty members will be recognized at the conference for their contributions, which range from developing service learning projects that bring college and high school students together to introducing tablets into the classroom making learning more efficient, effective and interesting. Award-winning faculty also increased motivation and self-esteem in students by engaging them with educational games, introducing new technology in Chinese courses and integrating problem-based learning in instructional technology courses.

Only 500 faculty members worldwide hold this highly-respected award for their contributions in the classroom. Colleges and universities can nominate only one full-time faculty member each year who has contributed in the most highly creative ways to teaching, learning and technology in higher education.

“The award recipients are innovators in teaching and learning,” said Bill Ganza, Director of the International Conference on College Teaching and Learning. “These faculty members are at the top of their field and are innovating new teaching techniques that are inspiring students and are motivating all of us to become better teachers.”

The awards for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology will be presented by Donald Green, Executive Vice President for Instruction and Student Services at Florida State College, and Jack Chambers, Associate Vice President of the Office of Learning Research and Development at Florida State College.
