Tweeting your homework? More teachers adopt social media in the classroom

Academics are sometimes imagined as living in a cloistered world of books and bureaucracy—surely the last population to “get” social media, says PC Magazine. They decry email for usurping the nearly lost art of letter-writing and see YouTube as a waste of time… or so some believe. Turns out, it couldn’t be farther from the truth, and a report by Pearson Learning Solutions [PDF] confirms it. More than 90 percent of higher education faculty who were surveyed for the report reported being aware of the social media sites Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and blogs in general. When it comes to use, a whopping “80 percent of faculty report using social media for some aspect of a course they are teaching,” the report indicates…
