Villanova advances cybersecurity

Online cybersecurity programs help professionals build foundations to succeed in IS Security careers

cybersecurity-villanovaPrevention and preparation for cyber-attacks have never been more important than in today’s global economy. Villanova University’s IS Security certificate programs help professionals gain essential skills needed to combat these cybersecurity threats and safeguard private information.

In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama highlighted new cybersecurity and privacy proposals to help bolster cybersecurity measures, prevent data breaches, improve customer privacy and prevent identity theft.

“No foreign nation, no hacker, should be able to shut down our networks, steal our trade secrets or invade the privacy of American families, especially our kids,” Obama said.

The recent flood of high-profile data breaches, such as the attacks on Sony, Target, Home Depot and JPMorgan Chase, have further increased the need for certified professionals in information systems security.

Villanova’s 100 percent online IS Security courses teach proven methods for evaluating risks and protecting vital data, while also preparing professionals for industry-recognized certifications.

“Cybersecurity has moved to the forefront of what concerns many individuals and organizations today. The ongoing cyber-attacks have resulted in the President of the United States calling for additional measures to protect the privacy and security of individuals,” said Villanova University Online Instructor Michael Gregg, CISSP, MA.

The new Advanced Master Certificate in Cybersecurity also teaches the skills and techniques needed to face this growing challenge. It prepares professionals for the Department of Defense (DoD) approved certification, the CompTIA® Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP)™, an essential credential for IS Security professionals. DoD Directive 8570.1 requires all information assurance professionals affiliated with the Department of Defense to obtain a certification within five years.

“The demand for trained professionals is rapidly approaching critical mass. Villanova University’s cybersecurity programs bring the expertise and experience of industry leaders into the classroom to provide vital advanced training to IS Security professionals,” said Gregg.
