Splunk Inc., provider of a software platform for real-time operational intelligence, announced Splunk Pledge, a new philanthropic program through its Splunk4Good initiative. Splunk Pledge commits to donate a minimum of $100 million over a 10-year period in software licenses, training, support, education and volunteerism to nonprofit organizations and educational institutions in order to support academic research and generate social impact. University of California, Irvine Division of Continuing Education‘s (DCE) state-of-the-art instructional and collaborative facility is now open. Located on the east side of the UCI campus, the five-story, eco-efficient facility boasts more than 75,000 square feet dedicated to continuing education courses and programs, and specialized events. The completion of the new building – which broke ground in October 2015 – follows another significant milestone for the school: the renaming of the school to its new, more encompassing and forward-thinking name, UCI Division of Continuing Education. Now in its second year, the list ranks the educational institutions doing the most to advance science, invent new technologies and help drive the global economy. Carlow University in Pittsburgh selected Schoology as its new learning management system for all faculty and students starting the 2016/17 academic year. University leadership stated that Schoology was the best platform to support and encourage student-centered, personalized learning for which Carlow University is well known. An algorithm developed at Carnegie Mellon University makes it easier to determine if someone has faked an Amazon or Yelp review or if a politician with a suspiciously large number of Twitter followers might have bought and paid for that popularity. The method, called FRAUDAR, marks the latest escalation in the cat-and-mouse game played by online fraudsters and the social media platforms that try to out them. Read more [5].
