UMBC Training Centers, a mid-Atlantic provider of technical, engineering and professional skills training, has announced a merger with /training/etc Inc., a leader in the design, development and delivery of content-rich Open Source technology training.

“This merger with /training/etc combines two regional leaders in technical training and comes at a time of exciting growth for UMBC Training Centers,” said Kent Malwitz, president of UMBC Training Centers. “Our customers will benefit from a greater range of offerings, such as additional leading-edge software development courses, and strategic offerings from technology leaders such as Red Hat, Hortonworks, VMWare and Cisco.”

The two principals of /training/etc will remain active in the merged organization. Co-founder Michael Saltzman will be named Dean, Instructor Development, and /training/etc president Susan Schneider will join the Leadership Vision team.

“Today we are joining together two leaders in the training industry that have both earned outstanding reputations for serving our students and our clients by conveying highly technical course content in an approachable and comprehensive way,” said Schneider. “We are thrilled to be merging the tradition of unequaled quality in Open Source training at /training/etc with the global reach and reputation of UMBC Training Centers.”

The merger with /training/etc supports UMBC Training Centers’ mission to improve the lives of students and the performance of organizations through the delivery of high-quality education and training services. The merged company will be located at the current UMBC Training Centers facility at 6996 Columbia Gateway Dr. in Columbia, MD. The facility will undergo an extensive expansion—expected to be completed in the fall of 2015—which will expand its existing footprint to 23,000 square feet to house new staff members and classrooms. /training/etc will continue to offer courses at its current location through October 2015.
