Ensuring educational programs, materials adhere to accessibility standards is increasingly important.

accessibility-effortsStephen F. Austin State University in Texas is working to ensure its education programs and content are universally accessible to students and faculty, most recently through the implementation of an integrated learning platform.

The university says it puts a large emphasis on making sure its faculty can create accessible programs–accessibility is part of the university’s accreditation criteria. Faculty are required to make all online courses accessible, and if materials are found inaccessible, the online course is not approved, according to university representatives.

As part of that accessibility process, the university implemented D2L’s Brightspace, an integrated learning platform, to help its faculty learn how to create course materials and curricula in accessible ways, regardless of student ability.
