The third-annual Best in Class Teaching Awards recognize educators who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the study of economics

Boston, MA, October 27, 2014 — To honor and celebrate innovative and notable instructors of economics, Cengage Learning, a global education company, and the National Economics Teaching Association (NETA) today announced the winners of the 2014 Economist Educators Best in Class Teaching Award.

“We are proud to honor this year’s Economist Educators Best in Class Teaching Award winners,” said Sandi Kirshner, chief marketing officer, Cengage Learning. “As the leading provider of learning resources for the undergraduate economics classroom, we have the privilege of interacting with many inspiring and dedicated instructors. Our award winners, finalists and all others who submitted an entry have touched the lives of countless students using innovative teaching methods that engage students, produce better outcomes, and transform the teaching of economics.”

In its third year, the awards were created as a way to recognize and honor exceptional economics teachers. Current and past winners have demonstrated innovative and creative ways to engage and inspire students in their economics coursework. This year’s winners were chosen by NETA from numerous submissions and each will be presented with a cash award for themselves and for their department, in addition to a trip to the 2014 Economics Teaching Conference. The winning entries and corresponding videos are as follows:

• First Place: Michael Enz, Roanoke College: Self Grading
• Second Place: Sherri Wall, University of Alaska-Fairbanks: Team Based Learning (TBL) – Econ Style!
• Third Place: Amy S. Cramer, Pima Community College: Voices on the Economy, or VOTE.
