EDUCAUSE, ORLANDO, FLA. and ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO – September 29, 2014

News Summary
Earlier this year, Oracle announced several major investments in its higher education solution portfolio, including Oracle Student Cloud, a new cloud-based student information system. Now, Oracle is announcing the Oracle Customer Strategic Design Program, with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, University of Texas System, and University of Wisconsin–Madison participating to provide guidance and domain expertise that will help shape the design and development of Oracle Student Cloud. Oracle also joined Internet2, a not-for-profit organization that fosters collaboration among research and education organizations and industry technology leaders to develop innovative solutions that address today’s higher education technology challenges. Oracle plans to certify and offer its Oracle Higher Education Cloud – including Oracle Student Cloud, infrastructure-as-a-service, and platform-as-a-service—through the Internet2 NET+ service program.

News Facts
Oracle today announced the Oracle Customer Strategic Design Program to support the development of the Oracle Student Cloud. Customers invited to participate must share Oracle’s vision of providing higher education institutions with a flexible, modern cloud-based student information system.
Each university will work with Oracle through significant milestones and releases, providing guidance and expertise to develop an industry-leading product. The growth of nontraditional programs is an important trend for these customers, and the first release of Oracle Student Cloud is expected to include flexible core structures and an extensible architecture to manage a variety of traditional and nontraditional educational offerings.
Oracle Student Cloud will feature a compelling mobile user interface that enables customers to extend, brand, and differentiate the student experience for each institution.

The first phase of Oracle Student Cloud is designed to support the core capabilities of enrollment, payment, and assessment. Oracle Student Cloud will embed CRM-based functionality throughout the solution to promote engagement and collaboration, along with a business intelligence foundation to provide customers with actionable insight into their student operations.

Oracle continues to invest in cloud services for higher education, with products available today that support grants management, budgetary control, encumbrance accounting, talent management, and CRM solutions for student recruiting, retention, and customer service.
Oracle’s higher education solutions provide customers with the flexibility to run student and Oracle Enterprise Resource (Oracle ERP) systems on premises and in the cloud. Oracle Student Cloud will be designed as part of a unified system that integrates with Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud and Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud for increased institution-wide visibility, efficiency, and performance.

Oracle also joined Internet2 to offer its Oracle Higher Education Cloud services—including both public cloud and private cloud offerings—through the Internet2 NET+ service program, which supports a unified, integrated portfolio of cloud and trust solutions. Through Internet2 NET+, members collectively identify and vet community and industry cloud solutions that are designed to meet campus challenges and scale to benefit all member institutions’ teaching, learning, and research needs. Internet2 will enable institutions to leverage multiple service options within Oracle Higher Education Cloud—with software as a service (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and platform as a service (PaaS) to meet their unique needs.

“We are always evaluating new course delivery models that meet our students’ changing demands,” said Becky Vasquez, chief information officer, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. “Nontraditional programs—such as short programs and online courses—are a big focus for us, and mobile and social will be critical components in addressing the needs of tomorrow’s students. We look forward to working with Oracle and the other program participants to create an agile student information system that can meet our evolving needs.”

“As we strive to expand access to a broad range of learners, we need to deliver near-real-time service in registration, payment, and other student-management tools. Being a Design Program partner gives us the chance to rethink our delivery of these services in light of modern realities and the need for greater levels of stewardship over our resources. It allows us to pursue efficiencies that align with our core mission,” said Steven Hahn, interim vice provost for enrollment management, University Wisconsin–Madison.

“Oracle is excited to renew our dedication to higher education by providing our customers with the most flexible technology options and choice of deployment. The Oracle Customer Strategic Design Program enables us to work with some of the leading minds in higher education technology to develop a leading-edge student cloud that will support a variety of educational models. Additionally, our membership in Internet2 will help us advance next-generation cloud technology through new levels of collaboration with the broader higher education community,” said Mark Armstrong, vice president, higher education product development, Oracle.
