The EDvantage Invites Faculty to “Hack Your Teaching” with New eBook

Arlington, Va. (Oct. 2, 2014) – Mobile technology has changed the way students access information. Whether it is finding a scholarly article for a research paper or a movie for a relaxing Saturday night, students demand instant access. The EDvantage, a free online resource hub for educators, makes this on demand approach possible for faculty with the release of “Hack Your Teaching: Easy Tips for Empowering Your Students,” a free eBook that highlights ideas and strategies for finding and incorporating online educational resources into lesson plans.

The eBook offers suggestions on creating an engaging learning environment for students. Themes include winning the battle for student attention, putting students in the driver’s seat, and connecting with students on their level. Each topic includes online resources and tips for including them in an established lesson plan as a supplement to traditional textbooks.

“In today’s tech-driven society, educators must compete for student attention to deliver their lessons,” said Josh Owens, director of The EDvantage. “The strategies and resources covered in the eBook can help professors enliven their lessons with engaging content.”

Using satirical videos, pop culture references and infographics highlighted in the eBook, educators can spark students’ critical thinking skills and increase meaningful discussion in the classroom. “Hack Your Teaching” covers a wide variety of educational topics, including pre-Socratic philosophy and major U.S. cultural movements.

Launched in October 2013, The EDvantage curates high-quality content, including videos, articles, and supplemental learning guides, so instructors can spend less time searching and more time teaching. With thousands of resources available, The EDvantage helps make the lesson planning process more efficient and innovative.
