Growing a Vibrant Distance Learning Community


Hillsborough Community College is creating a remote learning community for its American Sign Language (ASL) students. Using video, instructors record and share lessons, while online students do assignments and communicate feedback. Together, they have been able to create an effective learning environment over the internet, something that seems unlikely with an interactive language such as ASL.

Rich Senker, Director of Instructional Technology, recalls student reactions to TechSmith Relay, “It was big to hear the excitement from students, and to know how the product is making their lives so much easier.” With video interactions, students are able to communicate with others more effectively, and learn better than ever before.
