Vernier Kicks Off Its Fall 2014 Data-Collection Workshop Series for Science and STEM Educators

Free hands-on workshops help educators integrate data-collection technology and digital tools into science curricula

BEAVERTON, Oregon, July 2, 2014 – Starting this September, Vernier Software & Technology will offer 38 free, hands-on regional workshops to help science and STEM educators learn various ways to integrate data-collection technology into their curriculum. Each four-hour workshop will be led by an experienced training specialist who will help both novice and seasoned educators alike explore classroom-ready experiments using Vernier’s award-winning line of computer and handheld technology.

“Educators are looking for student instruction that is engaging, relevant, and grounded in critical science and engineering practices,” said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and former physics teacher. “Whether teachers are looking to improve their technology skills, to integrate digital tools as recommended by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), or to find new ways to make science engaging, Vernier workshops will provide them with the hands-on professional development to be successful using probeware.”

During the workshops, educators will learn important skills and strategies for integrating data-collection technology into their physics, chemistry, biology, environmental, Earth and middle school science instruction. In addition to the training, each participating educator will receive an electronic copy of Vernier’s Workshop Training Manual, which includes ready-to-use lab handouts for all science disciplines. Participant educators also have the option of earning two (quarter) graduate science credit hours through Portland State University Center for Science Education.
