IBA’s In Case of Crisis Mobile Safety App Joins Forces with Blackboard Mosaic

Partnership Means Easier Access and Increased Adoption to Dynamic Emergency Management Plans and Procedures for Colleges’ Students, Faculty, Staff and Community

Herndon, Va. – June 30, 2014 – In a move to create safer college campus experiences nationwide, Irving Burton Associates’ In Case of Crisis today announced that its emergency preparedness mobile app has been integrated into Mosaic, a mobile app platform from Blackboard, a global leader in education technology. The joint partnership will offer streamlined access to both current and new In Case of Crisis users among higher education organizations through seamless integration into the Mosaic application.

Using In Case of Crisis, administrators and safety officials can make the most up-to-date and accurate emergency preparedness procedures and other important campus information available to students, faculty and staff on their smartphone or tablet, even if they lose their connection to Wi-Fi or cellular. From the mobile app, students, faculty and staff will be able to:
• Quickly reference important emergency procedures
• Receive push notifications and alerts
• Send Incident Reporting with GPS locator and picture attachments

“In Case of Crisis gives us the ability to put our emergency plans and training into the hands of our community members for instant access,” said Mike Lefever, Associate Director for Emergency Management, Department of Public Safety University of North Dakota. “It also enables us to leverage technology for safety hazard reporting to our Operations Center so that we can keep our campus safe. The integration into our University app via Blackboard also allows more community members to have access to this information.”

The mobile app provides guidance on specific situations, offering step-by-step actions to take in cases of fire, severe weather and other emergencies. With an advanced incident reporting feature, the app will help campus communities communicate information quickly and provide an anonymous environment for students to ask questions or seek help.

“Emergency preparedness is more important than ever in the age of 24/7 communication and social engagement so it’s absolutely imperative to ensure an institution’s emergency readiness, response and recovery plans are dynamic, accessible and most importantly actionable in the time of need,” said Christopher Britton, General Manager, IBA’s In Case of Crisis. “The partnership with Blackboard Mosaic brings us one step closer to enabling universities nationwide to share critical emergency information via students’ and faculty’s mobile phones in real-time regardless of the situation.”

Utilized by leading corporate, education and government organizations including 24 Hour Fitness, George Mason University, Providence College, William & Mary, the award-winning In Case of Crisis mobile solution allows convenient and secure access to emergency information with features such as easy-to-read instructional and building diagrams, one-tap key contact calling, push notifications for updates/alerts, maps and incident reporting. The app includes access to a library of 85 possible emergency event scenarios with templates and images.

“Access to emergency plans and procedures before, during and after a situation occurs is fundamental for institutions’ overall learning environment,” said Alex Ackerman Greenberg, Mosaic product lead, Blackboard. “As a featured Mosaic module, In Case of Crisis offers the combination of a powerful campus mobile safety solution with strong user adoption and institutional branding.”
