The University of Louisville last week announced it had shattered its goal of raising $1 billion, with three months to spare, reports U.S. News and World Report.
That’s a lot of money, particularly for public universities that have been cash-strapped and raising tuition and fees to compensate for a decrease in state support in recent years. The University of Louisville is one of just 52 public universities to undertake a billion-dollar fundraising campaign. Oregon State University did it in January, the Texas Tech University system reached its goal in February 2013 and the University of California, Davis surpassed $1 billion in November 2013.
