About 54 percent of the edX registrants who viewed at least half of the course content earned a MOOC certificate, according to the universities’ working papers.

Demographics from the edX courses reinforced what many in higher education already knew: MOOC registrants are overwhelmingly male, have college degrees, have jobs, and come from developed nations.

There was quite a bit of procrastination detailed in the edX working papers. One in five registrants enrolled in a course after a certificate was no longer available, and many students jumped into a class just a week before all course materials were due.
