News about the various usage of this information, known as Big Data, emerges every day. The editors of eCampus News keep their fingers on the pulse of Big Data use in higher education in part by following the foremost experts in how data can be used in the college and university of the future.

Below are seven of the best Big Data experts to follow on Twitter. Be sure to give them a follow.

1. @dpatil

DJ Patil is a resident data scientist at Greylock Partners, an investment company which supports entrepreneurs building disruptive consumer and enterprise software companies. DJ is also the Vice President of Product at RelateIQ, a company launched in 2013 which seeks to find better solutions to manual data entry.

2. @bigdata

The user behind the @bigdata Twitter handle is Ben Lorica, chief data scientist @oreillymedia. Ben was an Assistant Professor at U.C. Davis and was the founding Department Chair for Statistics and Mathematics at C.S.U. Monterey Bay. His area of expertise is in cloud computing, analytics and big data.

3. @YvesMulkers

The Belgium-based Yves Mulkers is an independent business intelligence professional. He is a data modeler and ETL expert at McKinsey Solutions. Yves is a database specialist and has expertise in DTS, SSIS, Database tuning, linked servers and replication. He is the owner and independent Business Intelligence Architect at Klym.

4. @jameskobielus

A Big data evangelist for IBM, the Virginia-based James Kobielus  is an industry veteran who spearheads IBM’s thought leadership activities in big data, data science, enterprise data warehousing, advanced analytics, Hadoop, business intelligence, data management, and next best action technologies. 5. @williammcknight

Author of Information Management: Strategies for Gaining a Competitive Advantage with Data, William McKnight is CEO of McKnight Consulting Group and a strategist, Lead Enterprise Information Architect, and Program Manager for sites incorporating data warehousing, master data management, business intelligence and big data.

6. @revodavid

David Smith is a data scientist, writer and Vice President of Marketing at Revolution Analytics. David holds a degree in Statistics from the University of Adelaide, South Australia, and spent four years researching statistical methodology at Lancaster University, and co-authored An Introduction to R: Notes on R: A Programming Environment for Data Analysis and Graphics.
