Ellucian Demos Institutional Performance Management at EDUCAUSE; New Solution Uses Key Performance Data to Unify Action Toward Institutional Goals

ANAHEIM, Calif. – October 16, 2013 – (EDUCAUSE Annual Conference) – A new solution to debut at EDUCAUSE, Ellucian® Institutional Performance Management helps higher education leaders as they reconsider institutional management, align with external and internal accountability requirements, engage departments, and measure performance across the enterprise.

Enrollment fluctuations, budget cuts, and headcount-to-performance-based funding changes are pushing college and university leaders to change how they manage their institutions. Because these challenges affect the entire campus community, Ellucian Institutional Performance Management measures across the enterprise. It aligns and deeply engages departments and constituents at every level with actionable data, providing a better return on existing BI investments and nurturing a culture of performance.

Forty-five higher-education specific metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) provide a foundation for adding metrics from both Ellucian and non-Ellucian data sources. The metrics and KPIs help institutions measure objectives in the areas of academics, accountability, advancement and alumni relations, enrollment, finance and administration, recruiting and admissions, student services and student life, and workforce management, and eliminate the costly and time-consuming process of creating and supporting their own.

Tennessee Board of Regents
Thomas Danford, CIO, Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), is a leader in higher education performance measurement, helping the TBR to comply with the external force of the 2012 Complete College Tennessee Act. The act applied a new measurement pressure by eliminating funding based on enrollment headcount and defining a new outcomes-based funding formula that allocates state appropriations according to measures that include, but are not limited to, degree production; research funding and graduation rates at universities; and student remediation, job placement, student transfer, and associates degrees.

“Tennessee was the first state in the union to link state funding with student outcomes,” said Danford. “Ellucian’s IPM solution will allow us to deliver critical management capabilities to all 19 colleges and universities in our system to ensure that every decision about resource allocation is viewed through the lens of its impact on student outcomes. And we can augment the tools easily as new metrics are developed.”

Nuventive® and Microsoft®
Developed and delivered in partnership with Nuventive®, Ellucian Institutional Performance Management ties together Nuventive’s collaborative planning and outcomes assessment products, TracDat® and the TracDat option for integration to Microsoft® SharePoint®. The solution will integrate with the Banner® by Ellucian and Colleague® by Ellucian administrative systems, bringing together a wide range of campus data with collaborative planning, assessment, and documentation technologies. Strategic consulting services support the necessary process and cultural changes required for successful adoption and maintaining momentum.

“In order for Institutional Performance Management to take hold on campus, it needs to be built around the right culture and supported with software solutions that are powerful, affordable, easy to use, and integrated into the daily lives of faculty and staff,” said Dave Raney, chief executive officer, Nuventive.” Integrating our planning and assessment software with Ellucian’s business intelligence capabilities delivers the context needed to make an institution’s culture of performance thrive. This solution provides leadership with an opportunity to really drive alignment and results throughout the institution.”

Ellucian Institutional Performance Management leverages the familiar Microsoft SharePoint interface, enabling broad engagement of faculty and staff.

“Higher education leaders are betting their limited resources on a future for higher education that is more engaging, efficient, and oriented to ensuring student success,” said Anthony Salcito, vice president, worldwide public sector education, Microsoft. “We are pleased to partner with Ellucian and Nuventive to help institutions plan better and drive higher achievement and performance by making data more accessible and usable for all faculty and staff.”

“Ellucian Institutional Performance Management lets campus leaders unlock their data and use it to drive real performance improvements in operations, learning outcomes, student success, and other strategic institutional goals,” said Mark Jones, senior vice president and chief product officer, Ellucian. “It uniquely enables system offices and institutions with a way to align everyone around strategic initiatives to address today’s ultra-fast changing landscape and increased external demands.”

Ellucian Institutional Performance Management draws from data in Ellucian administrative and business intelligence solutions including Banner Operational Data Store, Banner Enterprise Data Warehouse, Colleague DataOrchestrator, and Colleague Reporting and Operating Analytics. The solution also provides the framework for customization by institutions, illustrating the value of the Ellucian Extensible Ecosystem vision.
