Rochester, NY – July 8, 2013 – Adapt Courseware, the provider of comprehensive adaptive online curriculum resources that individualize each student’s learning experience, has released the results of its learning outcomes validation studies across two-year and four-year public and private institutions for the 2012-2013 academic year. The results demonstrate stronger student success rates across the board using the company’s adaptive learning courseware when compared to traditional online courses.
Adapt Courseware defines success rates as grades A through C divided by the number of students who are present at the add-drop deadline. Across all students completing the adaptive learning sections at the various institutions where research was conducted, the success rate was 74 percent, a 15 percent (or 10 point) improvement over the comparison group rate of 64 percent. Gains were skewed toward higher grades – students earned A or B grades at a 49 percent higher rate.
In some cases the learning outcomes results were even better. At Daytona State College, the success rate using Adapt Courseware was 87 percent, with 78 percent of students earning an A grade. “Daytona State is a leader in education innovation, and we are pleased to participate in research with Adapt Courseware on the power of adaptive, personalized instruction,” said Dr. Carol Eaton, President of Daytona State.
According to psychology instructor Stephanie Sabbagh, who led both adaptive and traditional online sections of Introduction to Psychology at Central Piedmont Community College, “Adapt Courseware’s approach to online learning makes it possible to interact and engage with students in ways I never have before. My role as an instructor has become more meaningful to my students as we communicate more effectively, not to mention, I’m able to better manage my time. Adapt Courseware is representative of what online learning can and should be.”

Adapt Courseware expects these gains in student success rates to be reflected in student retention increases as well, and plans measuring this upon the start of the Fall 2013 term. The company previously reported a 27 percent increase in retention from Fall 2012 to Spring 2013 among students using Adapt Courseware at Southwest Virginia Community College.
Adapt Courseware will be sharing its research with attendees at the Sloan-C Blended Learning Conference today and tomorrow, where it is also leading an interactive breakout session, “Adaptive Learning: What Would the Best Online Learning Experience be Like?” The event draws an international group of administrative leaders, instructors, instructional designers, and researchers interested in new ways to improve quality and access in education.
