San Jacinto College Engages Ellucian to Leverage Existing Technology Investments and Improve ROI

FAIRFAX, Va. – May 29, 2013 –San Jacinto College engaged Ellucian® to help the college discover ways to leverage technology resources more efficiently during a time of increasing enrollment and constrained budgets. The management consulting engagement will help San Jacinto College improve business processes across core business units and broaden its distance learning program to serve new students.

In the 10 years since San Jacinto College first implemented its Banner® by Ellucian administrative system, constituent needs have changed significantly. However, the college had not kept pace with updated business processes and technologies associated with Banner. San Jacinto College recognized the need to implement fuller self-service capabilities and other functionality to improve quality of service and operating efficiencies, and support the institution’s strategic objective of growing its distance learning program.

“We elevated the management and investment of our ERP to a strategic level to position the college for future success, driving holistic fundamental changes in our processes and the way we interact with students,” said Rob Stanicic, CIO, San Jacinto College. “Our Banner by Ellucian ERP is more than an administrative support system; it is an enabler for doing business. We want to leverage it to its fullest capacity to gain the maximum ROI.”

During the engagement, Ellucian consultants will work with San Jacinto College staff to map and weigh how departmental goals and business processes are supporting the institution’s four strategic goals. As they continue to review business processes, they will also gauge how well teams are working with current solutions and identify best practices that can be applied to gain maximum efficiencies and return on existing investments.

Following an initial assessment of its digital campus, San Jacinto College licensed several new solutions to better support student success, financial aid, and human resources processes. A subsequent phase of the engagement will focus on bringing new functionality and efficiencies to recruitment, admissions, and registration. San Jacinto College also contracted with Ellucian for Application Management Services to provide needed support to its IT staff.

“One of the strengths that Ellucian brings is a deep understanding of their products and how they apply to higher education,” said Stanicic. “They are able to start at a strategic level and then work down through what we need to do tactically in terms of functionality, and then help do the heavy lifting to make that happen.”

“San Jacinto College leadership recognizes that the college’s strategic technology investments are key to better institutional effectiveness—which can drive better student outcomes,” said Mike Wallesen, senior vice president and chief services officer, Ellucian. “They are taking aggressive action to achieve defined outcomes that will help them work smarter and serve their student population better.”
