Walden University Receives Reaffirmation of Accreditation by The Higher Learning Commission
HLC grants accreditation to Walden for 10 more years

Minneapolis—May 8, 2013—Walden University announced today that its accreditation through The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has been reaffirmed for 10 years, the maximum period of time granted. The next reaffirmation of accreditation is scheduled for 2022–2023.

“The reaffirmation of accreditation for 10 years is a mark of the strength of our programs and our university,” said Dr. Cynthia G. Baum, President of Walden. “In fact, the reviewers specifically recognized that Walden operates with the utmost integrity and that we clearly embrace our unique mission of effecting positive social change through innovative and purposeful academic programs that serve students extremely well.”

The HLC accredits degree-granting postsecondary educational institutions in the North Central region of the U.S. It is one of six regional accrediting associations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The HLC was created to develop and maintain high standards of academic excellence. Receiving HLC accreditation means an institution meets recognized standards of education regarding its mission, governance, financial stability, teaching and learning, relations with its constituents, as well as federal compliance requirements.

Following an extensive self-study process, Walden completed its regularly scheduled site visit for reaffirmation of accreditation in October 2012. A team of six evaluators, selected and trained by the HLC and composed of faculty members and academic leaders from various universities throughout the central U.S., visited the Minneapolis academic offices and engaged with more than 260 Walden students, alumni, faculty, staff, administrative and academic leaders. Throughout their visit, the team covered a wide range of topics including student services, compliance, finance, outreach and service and strategic planning.
